Tensions Flare at Michigan Right-to-Work Protest (Breaking the Grip of Street Gangs)

One needs only to look at the economies of right-to-work states vs. union states to see which is better.  Sure union employees make more on average, but right-to-work states generally have a lower cost of living.  These poor people who are being forced into unions are victims of mob mentality.  The union fat-cats are getting rich off of the labor of the average Joe.

I believe that unions are a big reason that the economy is in trouble.  Take GM for example, a UAW worker who installs a widget on the Chevy Volt in a plant in Michigan makes a certain amount of money per hour.  The union has forced GM to keep his salary at a rate that is too high because the union knows that the more this guy makes, the more he can pay for union dues, which costs GM even more.  Now take the guy who works at the Toyota plant in San Antonio, Texas, a right-to-work state.  The widget installer (who installs the same type  of widget) makes probably 30% less than the guy in Michigan.  Toyota isn't being forced to pay the guy an inflated rate to cover his union expenses, the cost of living is cheaper in San Antonio, and the guys quality of life is better.  He is able to spend more money in the economy thus giving Texas one of the best economies of all 50 states with a higher than average employment rate.

Being forced to join a union in order to take a job, in my opinion, is equivalent to a small business owner being forced to pay protection by the local street gang.  You either pay and take home some money or you don't pay and don't take anything home, which forces you to apply for welfare and food stamps.  This in turn will require the government to raise taxes to pay the entitlements which will cause all of us, union or not to pay more out of pocket to support people who don't work but could be in a right-to-work state.

Lets just hope that more states follow the lead of Wisconsin and Michigan and choose to become right-to-work states.  We must loosen the grip of big labor (street gangs) and stop paying the protection.
