Too Much Change in too Short a Period of Time

I'm not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand the technology is FREAKIN' AWESOME and we could conceivably never lose another pilot.

On the other hand, we wont have anymore military pilots in the traditional sense of the word. Will a machine appreciate its accomplishment of a successful landing on night time carrier landing? It will have no appreciation of hitting a target, intercepting an inbound missile saving thousands of lives, intercepting a signal and relaying valuable intelligence back to the Battle Group. I suppose the guy 'flying' the drone experiences those emotions, but his/her life isn't on the line.

We saw recently how the Iranians got one of our drones. That technology was taken by them. Now they can use that technology against our men and women on the ground and on our ships at sea. In that same vein, an American pilot and crew was not subjected to their 14th century means of interrogation, torture (a damn site worse than water boarding, to be sure) and twisted mentality.

I just see Alvin Toffler's 'Future Shock' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future_Shock) playing in my mind... Where the machines do our work and eventually control us. I know, I can suck the joy out of anything. But think about it.
